NNF Partners Rotary Club Accra-East To Donate Wheelchairs at Jamestown

In a powerful demonstration of what happens when compassion meets connection, The Wheelchair Foundation and Chair the Hope, together with local partners Rotary Club Accra-East, Hope for Africa Foundation, and the Nurture Nature Foundation, joined forces this week to change lives—one chair at a time.

Jamestown was fortunate to receive 20 brand-new wheelchairs through this collaboration, bringing independence, dignity, and hope to physically challenged members of the community who previously struggled with basic mobility.

The Power of Connection

Winfred Elorm Addo, Current President of the Rotary Club Accra-East, opened the ceremony by highlighting the “magic” of human relations. He reminded attendees that advocacy often begins with a simple smile or a conversation.

“I want to stress on connections. You may not know where your help will be coming from,” Addo shared, recounting how a chance relationship and a shared interest in the MESTRA Cup eventually led to a contact offering a container of supplies that brought this day to life.

Advocacy in Action: Addressing the Gap

While the day was a celebration, the speakers were quick to turn the spotlight toward the work that remains. Despite the 20 chairs donated, the organizers emphasized that the waiting list remains long.

The Urgent Need: At least 60 to 100 people in the immediate area are still waiting for mobility aid.

The Call to Corporate Ghana: President Addo issued a stirring call to action, urging Corporate Ghana and other NGOs to step up and help close the gap for the dozens of neighbors still struggling in silence.

A Commitment to Stewardship and Security

The Nurture Nature Foundation and Hope for Africa Foundation emphasized that providing the chairs is only the first step. True aid requires long-term commitment and maintenance.

Mr. Peter Asiedu of the Nurture Nature Foundation assured the community that these resources would be protected and preserved. He announced that the foundation would implement strict security measures—including reinforcing the chairs with chains and padlocks—to prevent theft and ensure they remain in the hands of those who truly need them.

Furthermore, the Social Welfare representative from Hope for Africa Foundation addressed the crowd with an emotional plea for sustainability:

“When we are given these, maintenance is key. We must ensure these are kept in good condition to serve the recipients for a long time.”

Moving Forward Together

This event serves as a blueprint for effective humanitarian work: international partners providing the resources, local organizations coordinating community access, and foundations ensuring sustainability and accountability.

As we celebrate these 20 new journeys toward independence, we are reminded that the road ahead is long. But with continued collaboration, no one in our community will be left behind.
