Each time volunteers of Nurture Nature Foundation step onto the beaches of Chorkor, James Town, Korle Gonno, and other coastal communities in Accra, they arrive with gloves, waste bags, and determination. Within hours, plastics are cleared, debris is removed, and stretches of shoreline begin to resemble the tourism assets Ghana promotes to the world.
The Nurture Nature Foundation (NNF), a non-governmental organisation championing environmental advocacy, sustainable sanitation and community development initiatives in Ghana, has secured funding to construct 175 biodigester toilets free of charge for households in Jamestown as part of efforts to tackle the persistent challenge of open defecation along the coastal enclave.
The West Africa Coastal Areas Resilience Project (WACA ReslP 2), which Ghana joined in 2024 is a response by some West Africa countries with support from World Bank and other Development Partners to manage their coastal areas to address coastal erosion, flooding, pollution, restoring coastal ecosystems especially mangroves and securing livelihoods.
